Steeped in Storytelling

Hello! I’m Sarah DeLong, an American-Canadian voice actor based in Salt Lake City. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and the Midwest and am a mom, podcaster, nerd and foodie.

Steeped in Storytelling is a cozy podcast exploring story, science and sound. ☕️ It's my little corner table where we can chat about all the weird things that float around in my head about neuroscience, acting analysis, books, cooking and lived experience. Short episodes drop weekly!

Some of the words listeners have shared to describe Steeped in Storytelling ~ "calming" "engaging" "thoughtful" "soothing" "affirming" "educational" "chill" "reflective" "meditative" and "explorative."

Today’s cup is earthy, grounding, with a whisper of honeyed wood: ceylon with dried flowers and orange peel.

I’m so glad you’re here. Today’s brew is a quiet one. The kind you wrap both hands around. We’re sipping a warm cup of pu-erh, earthy, smoky, and grounding, with a whisper of rosemary.
In today’s episode, A Cup for Grief, we reflect on how we hold space for loss, rupture, and trauma through language, through silence, through sound.
This is a tender one. Let’s breathe together. And begin.

Today’s brew is all about the living layers of language; how it’s shaped not just by our thoughts, but by our breath, our bodies, and the spaces we inhabit. We’re steeping in sensation, speech, and how our voices carry memory and meaning; a bright and nuanced cup, with a hint of citrus.

Today we’re steeping in questions of identity, breath, and belonging. Why do we sound the way we do? How does our voice carry our story? We’ll look at the science of vocal functions, how belonging shapes breath, and the stories of self we create through our own sound. This one’s warm, earthy, with a little spice—like a great chai with notes of cinnamon.
